revisiting my purpose for taking MBA

i am in my 2nd trimester in the program (well it's basically the school year's 3rd already)... and after a full December2012 of no class i am suddenly losing steam in continuing when we resume classes in January... for 2 saturdays i have been constantly wishing that professors would declare no classes... hehe i am just too lazy to go anymore, considering that i would rather spend my saturdays with my P...

so why am i exactly subjecting myself to this... why am i spending half of my weekend away from my kiddo....i dont think that this is going to put me in a different level in terms of skills... because looking through the curriculum, it's basically a repeat of everything for a business course graduate, that's why as much as possible i did not want to go through it... it's actually something that won't give you an edge when looking for a job in Manila...but since i decided to go back to zamboanga in 2009, i know things like this matters in the province, specially if you're going to work with the government (which is usually one of the good options if you're going to work in a non-metro city like zamboanga). But i did not end up working for the government anyway, and so far my current company believes more in my performance rather than any higher degree, so i dont think i need to take MBA for work purposes... but im still going through it... well as a backup of some sort (just in case i would still end up with a government office, worst case scenario)... and i would like to experience teaching major accounting subjects later... so just to make sure i will have no regrets later (as much as i am having now, i should have done this once i went back to zambo in 2009 and before getting married and P)....

---------------------------------------

wrote this back in January and i can't remember why i did not post this.... we're on our last day of this trimester today (yey major papers and final exams!!!), that's why i remember about this post... i will rest for the next 5 months since i will be giving birth in the middle of the 1st trimester so i don't want to take chances.... i will resume again in August and will have to go through saturdays away from my boys until the 1st quarter of 2015... I'm hating the thought of it.... but for whatever pushed me to do this, i'll finish this no matter what (even though sometimes we end up with not so ok profs... hehehe)...

fingers crossed....

i guess i need to utilize this as well in trying to master managing my time between school, work, my boys, this blog, lakwatsa, and a whole lot of other things i want to do.... :D

  1. You might think the MBA courses just repeats our college subjects but the content is very much different. Well at least in my classes in UP Diliman, it is an additional knowledge. More of the long term and overall view plus a lot of analysis on a top management level. So it is a plus and all the sacrifices is definitely worth it :)

    Keep going!

    1. i envy you shiela big time.... i can imagine how different MBA would be in UP... iv seen my professors during my undergrad go through it while teaching us some units.... iv seen how they struggle with it, how they seem to be pushed by it.... and not a single hint of all that ever exists in ADZU's MBA... iv lowered my expectations from the start but as low as iv set that sadly it still doesn't come close... good thing i haven't met this finance prof my classmates are talking about, because i think i would totally give up, he's treating his class like the way he treats his undergrads... considering everyone in the program are professionals and business people already.... sigh.... :-)

    2. it's just the thought now that an MBA title is something that i would be able to use somehow here in the province is what's making me stick with the program til the finish... :-)

  4. Before I get married, I want to have a Master's degree if the not PhD. But everything changed when I had my son. But I want to study still, a different field naman that is web designing. My goal now kasi is to become a SAHM. So I am investing in my blogs, my online shop and next nga into web designing. If I had only known I would change plans now, I have had taken web designing instead BSChemistry. But I love being a Chemist naman. Hehe. Good luck to you Mommy!

    2. Maye,
The same happened to me. After I married and had I kids, I abandoned my PhD program... I needed more sleep. Now I'm reluctant to go back because they are in college and need the funding... Plus I have a couple of Masters and can live with that.
So dear Promding, strike while the iron is hot and finish your studies... You wont regret it. :-)

  24. I felt the same frustration back when I was doing my masters at UP,nakakaloka talaga. My classmates and i would always question ourselves, "why are we doing this? why are we making things difficult for ourselves?" then we would encourage each other by,"oi, ginusto mo yan.. ikaw nagbabayad nyan.. bawal bumitaw, sayang tuition!" hihihi kidding aside, after finishing grad school on top of the promotion (ehem), i felt more confident about myself and what i am capable of.. imagine, natapos ko yun??? lol

in short, kaya mo yan sis. one lesson at a time. :)

  27. It's really difficult when you don't see a very clear purpose for what you do, and more so if you have no interest in it. Sometimes, you just do things for the sake of doing it. I hope you'll have an "a-ha" moment later on and realize that there is indeed a good purpose for all your hardships and sacrifices now.
